Heartland Payment Systems Data Breach
Kingsport Press Credit Union and most other financial institutions across the country have received notification that a large security breach has
occurred at Heartland Payment Systems compromising some of our debit and credit cards. Stolen information is restricted to: cardholder name(s),
card numbers and expiration dates.
There was NOT a problem with security at Kingsport Press Credit Union and our computer systems have NOT been accessed. No personal data such as
addresses, account numbers, balances, or social security numbers were involved in the data breach.
Heartland Payment Systems provides debit and credit card processing services for approximately 250,000 businesses nationwide. Heartland is NOT
associated with Kingsport Press Credit Union in any way. Instead, they process for merchants such as restaurants, gas stations, etc. with whom
you may do business.
If your card number is identified as being among those compromised, we will be contacting you. Do NOT, however, provide your card number to
anyone that may contact you asking for it, even if they say they’re from the Credit Union. We already have your information and have no reason
to ask you for it.
As always, please review your account history. In the unlikely event that an unauthorized transaction does occur, you will not be held
financially responsible for transactions reported to us in a timely manner.
Heartland Payment Systems has created a website,
http://2008breach.com/, which offers additional information concerning the breach.
